Job Title: Assistant Cafe Leader
Reports to: General Manager
Classification: Full-time, hourly
Wage: $21-23/hour + tips + 5% bonus potential
What's the job?
Assistant Cafe Leaders (ACLs) are managers in training. They operate as the go-to person when the General Manager is not available and anticipate the needs of their team and cafe. The ACL collaborates with their manager to improve the cafe’s P&L statement through day-to-day operational support. They are cross-trained in the front and back of the house, while able to maintain quality standards across every position. ACLs facilitate their team’s training progress and ensure a commitment to G&B and GGET values and standards.
ACLs are accountable for maintaining a positive work environment and ensuring fair and consistent treatment of all staff.
Key Responsibilities
Execute onboarding and development for the cafe team
Support GM with interviewing and onboarding of new hires
Host palette development activities
Disseminate new coffee updates to the team
Validate level-progress
Act with owner-eyes in the cafe to solve problems before they occur
Surface problems to the manager with a solutions mindset
Suggest improvements or ways to refine processes, creating tools when necessary
Review the P&L with the GM and take action for improvement
Troubleshoot and perform preventative maintenance in the cafe
Instill accountability in team members
Perform regular QC for both food and beverages
Deliver and pull feedback regularly with your team
Coach Shift Lead and team members in time management, task completion, and intentional operation
Send people home when appropriate
Ensure the cafe is properly stocked
Support GM in end of period duties
Place coffee order effectively
Place Vesta order effectively
Place paper goods order effectively
Place pastry order effectively
Other Job Duties

Customer service
Coffee brewing and espresso extraction
Drink finishing

Handle cash and card transactions, ensuring accurate keeping of your till
Hold keys for the shop, open/close the store
Demonstrate proficiency in all roles of the shop, front and back of house
Replenish inventory or make proper substitutions for pars
Proactively pass on CS knowledge to new staff
Coach and empower team members to take ownership of each customer’s experience
De-escalate high-intensity customer interactions
Check your Slack communications at the start and end of every shift and interface as necessary with other teams/locations
Act on behalf of the GM when no other leadership is present
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

Demonstrate mastery of formal staff training, feedback, and shop processes
Demonstrate a keen eye for detail and the bar skills necessary to lead coffee service

Share our absolute passion for coffee, food, and hospitality
Open and/or close the coffeebar, and posses overall schedule flexibility
Excellent time management and delegation skills

Experiential Qualifications
Previous success working on a G&B/GGET team of highly-comparable experience from an outside company
Experience working with diverse teams
Physical Requirements, with or without a reasonable accommodation
Ability to move about the cafe space frequently throughout shift
Ability to operate job related tools, such as espresso machines and coffee brewers
Ability to communicate effectively with coworkers and customers
Ability to frequently move prep items in bins weighing up to 40lbs
Exposure to kitchen environment with hot surfaces
